School Readiness
To help understand what children should be able to do before starting school in their reception class, here are the 10 key steps for unlocking school readiness:
- I can settle happily without my parent or carer.
- I can tell friends and grown-ups what I need.
- I can take turns and share when I am playing.
- I can go to the toilet on my own and wash my hands.
- I can put on my own coat and shoes and feed myself.
- I can tell a grown up if I am happy, sad or cross.
- I know that what I do and say can make others happy or unhappy.
- I am curious and want to learn and play.
- I can stop what I am doing, listen and follow simple instructions.
- I enjoy sharing books with grown-ups.

We understand that all children are individuals and it is really important to us that we take each child from their unique starting point. We look forward to meeting and getting to know your child.
Ready, Teddy, Go Project
Over the last few years, we have run a project known as 'Ready, Teddy, Go'. This involves children being given a teddy bear when they come for their summer induction sessions. Children can then take this bear home with them and spend time with them over the summer holidays. When children return to school in September, they can then bring their teddy with them. The project aims to build children's confidence in leaving their adult and coming into school happy and reassured that they have their teddy with them. Due to the success of this project, we are excited to be running it again this year for our new starters.
