Aspire, Belong, Achieve

Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Religious Education (RE) at Three Trees CE Juniors

Three Trees Infant Academy recognises that ‘enquiry’ can be instrumental to good learning in RE as referenced in recent Ofsted RE subject reports, and we aim to help pupils develop skills to enquire independently. Pupils should be given time to generate pertinent questions where appropriate and teachers of RE should ensure that the atmosphere in an RE session is conducive to question raising and reflective thought whenever appropriate.

We appreciate the positive impact that local communities and local faith communities can have on pupils’ experiences in RE. Three Trees caters for this by aiming to have a visit to a place of worship in each year group and inviting visitors from faith communities into RE lessons.

It is vitally important that teachers demonstrate respectful attitudes towards all faiths, modelling the attitudes and responses we would expect from our pupils.

At Three Trees Junior Academy Religious Education (RE) is a core part of our curriculum and reflects our Christian foundation while promoting respect and understanding of all faiths and worldviews. Our approach is rooted in the Church of England’s vision for education, which seeks to enable every child to flourish and live life in all its fullness.

Teaching and Learning

A wide range of imaginative teaching methods and pupil groupings are used in effective RE sessions. RE is taught using art, music, drama, discussion, and writing to engage pupils and deepen understanding. Lessons encourage creativity and reflection, helping pupils explore big questions about life, faith, and meaning.

Enquiry-Based Learning

Three Trees ecognises that ‘enquiry’ is instrumental to good learning in RE, as referenced in recent Ofsted RE subject reports and the Church of England Statement of Entitlement. We aim to help pupils develop skills to enquire independently. Pupils are given time to generate pertinent questions, and teachers ensure that the atmosphere in RE sessions is conducive to question-raising and reflective thought.

Community and Faith Engagement

We value the positive impact that local communities and faith communities have on pupils’ experiences in RE. Three Trees aims to include visits to places of worship for each year group/key stage and invites visitors from faith communities into RE lessons. This includes visits to our parish church and opportunities to engage with Christian clergy and leaders.

Respect and Inclusion

It is vitally important that teachers demonstrate respectful attitudes towards all faiths and worldviews, modelling the attitudes and responses we expect from our pupils. While our teaching reflects our Christian foundation, all key stages will also consider people who do not hold religious beliefs where appropriate, fostering inclusivity and understanding.

Curriculum

Three Trees Juniors follows the NATRE scheme for RE, adapted to ensure alignment with the Church of England’s Statement of Entitlement. Christianity is taught in every year group, with at least two-thirds of RE time dedicated to Christian learning, alongside the study of other major world religions and non-religious worldviews.

EYFS: Christianity and thematic links to other religions

KS1: Christianity, Judaism, Islam and thematic links to other religions

KS2: Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism and Humanism as well as non-religious beliefs
